GCR Mongolia Oyu Tolgoi Mines | Shafts 3 & 4

Scope of Works

In February 2017 GCR Mongolia was incorporated as a Limited Liability Company in Mongolia. The Company is a joint venture between Gobi Infrastructure Partners, (GIP), Clough Singapore LTE and RUCCEM LLC, (wholly owned subsidiary of RUC Mining Contractors).

In March 2017 GCR Mongolia entered into its first contract with Oyu Tolgoi Mines LLC. This contract was for the construction of the backbone services on the minesite to support all of the shafts (one through to 5), the mine infrastructure and the twin declines being developed from surface. The works involved civil, earthworks, piping and E&IC including some critical projects such as the Central heating Plant civils. A workforce of some 750 persons was recruited to complete the works.

Whilst undertaking these works GCR Mongolia bid for and was successful in winning works to sink shafts 4 and 3 under a design construct contract and the underground ore flow works including the primary crusher and associated transfer stations, conveyors and E rooms. This work is currently in progress.

The joint venture currently engages nearly 1,500 Employees of which over 90% are Mongolian Nationals. As well the joint venture has established a training academy in Ulaanbaatar the capital of Mongolia which supports the onboarding of our workforce with both practical and theory training in construction and shaft sinking as well as providing an outsourced service to other Mongolian and international entities working in country.

The joint venture is focused on continuing to provide employment opportunities for Mongolian persons on major infrastructure projects in Mongolia and where it makes sense in the region.

We are a significant contributor to the Mongolian economy as well as being a significant Employer and taxpayer providing long lasting benefits to Mongolia.

We have an enviable safety record with nearly 5 million manhours worked without a lost time accident to date.
